This is a page that I made up to show you my interest is 3-wheelers and some of my projects.

My first experience with 3-wheelers was back in the mid-eighties when I was about 7 years old and my Uncle had a 200cc Big Red. I thought they were the coolest thing around and looked so big!

Fast Forward to 2004, I'm 26 years old and still think 3-wheelers are about the coolest thing around. The question I always get asked first off when I tell someone I like riding trikes is "... aren't those things illegal?" or "Those things are so dangerous!". Well the answers are NO and NO. They are not illegal all that happened is a group called the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) placed a ban on the production of 3 wheeled off road vehicles. Here is a write-up that I have a copy of, I can't remember the source.CPSC Badnews for ATCs Make sure you view the link in full size or else you will be unable to read it.

A few years ago I overheard a few guys I work with taking about 3-wheelers that they had and I remembered how cool they were when I was young. I too thought they were illegal but was informed otherwise. Soon I borrowed a friends' for a quick drive and I was hooked! I loved them! It wasn't long before I had a few hundred bucks and was looking for one to buy, I had no idea what I wanted, just a Honda ATC. You could have sold me any junk and you'd be laughing, which is what happened. A 1985 250es Big Red. Not a bad beginner ride except this one was repaired with a welder for the last 15 years, had no title, and wouldn't start.

Well I handed the owner $500 loaded it on the trailer with a smile on my face, I was a ATC owner. It was all smiles until I finally fixed the "not starting" problem for another $200, Soon almost $1000 was into this trike and it kept falling apart, you could spend $2000 more just to make it "OK". I bought me a lemon. Over the next year I learned all I could about 3-wheelers and had bought a 1984 200es Big Red in decent shape for $400 and it not only ran, but was reliable too! Sure it was a more primitive ATC but the 250es was never working so it sat while the 200es was out having fun.

Meanwhile I was learning a lot about these shunned machines of old and joined TrikeHeaven.com. I was going to try my hand at a ATC250r. I liked the simplicity and good looks of the 83-84 air-cooled 250r's and started looking for the right one. I wasn't going to be caught in the same trap as I had before. This spring I found a well kept 1984 250r that was the right price and bought it. It was missing a few original parts but was in very good shape over all.

I also had found a frame from a 1983 250r for about $50, and started buying any parts for 1983-84 250r's. Soon it was time to start planning a build-up of my own trike from the ground up. I had found most of a 300cc Honda big bore kit, but some parts were missing and was going to be very hard to replace them so I am staying with a 250cc. Found a complete 1985 front end and saw in the Dennis Kirk book the bearings were the same. I never knew if it would mount up until after it was home. So now I've got a big pile of parts and another 250r going together. The plan basicly is to have one heck of a cool air-cooled R that should keep up with most any liquid 250r.
